Our crew

Our crew

For us, the most important part of making your trip unforgettable is our team. They live and breathe travel!

With more than 400 AAT Kings staff worldwide, with offices throughout Australia, in Auckland, Los Angeles, London, Munich and Toronto, we are able to ensure everything is hassle-free for you. From booking right through to travelling, we’re dedicated to providing professional and personal service to you every step of the way.

Our team on the road are there to make sure you see and do the best of what’s on offer, drop you right to the door of your accommodation, look after your luggage at the end of each day and be on hand to share tips on where to eat, what to see or anything else you need. And you can enjoy peace of mind knowing that all our road crew are also first aid trained.

On all our Guided tours, a team of 2 travel professionals - a Tour Director and Driver, will accompany you. Whilst on our Day tours and Explorer tours, you’ll travel with one of our specialist Driver guides. All are committed, passionate and eager to share their local knowledge with you.

About our Tour Directors

The majority of AAT Kings Tour Directors have more than five years experience and we think they are hands down, the best in the business. They’re carefully chosen, well- seasoned experts, with in-depth knowledge covering history and culture, local flora and fauna. Add to that some fun, unique and local anecdotes and they provide you with enriching insights you won’t find in a guidebook. Our Tour Directors are on hand to give tailored advice on ideas of things to do with your free time.

Training is crucial and ongoing for all our Tour Directors. Each region has its own intensive training program tailored to suit the area’s requirements. For example, in the Northern Territory, training on indigenous culture is particularly important for tour staff, which is why all our Tour Directors undertake online study into Tjukurpa (Aboriginal Stories), as told by Anangu (the local indigenous people) as well as the native flora, fauna and geology of Uluru-Kata Tjuta and Kakadu National Parks, through Charles Darwin University.

About our Driver guides

Our Driver guides are handpicked for their exceptional customer service skills and ability to deliver interesting and entertaining commentary as well as safe driving track record and extensive on road experience. They’re all-rounders.

As passionate local experts, our Driver guides are encouraged to ‘share a little bit of themselves’ on the tour, with a mix of personal anecdotes and stories alongside their professional commentary that works to bring the region you’re travelling in, to life. Often, when time allows, our Driver guides also incorporate a little extra off-the-itinerary sightseeing, revealing little-known ‘hidden gems’.

The driving part of the Driver guides roles mean they’re trained in areas such as defensive driving, all road rules and delivery of commentary and destination/itinerary updates.

About our Tour Drivers

Our Drivers are second to none and work as a team with the Tour Director. Each Driver holds a HR (Heavy Rigid) licence and has been screened for a clear track record and extensive driving experience. Like our Driver guides, these guys are also regularly trained in defensive driving, updated road rules and destination/itinerary delivery. Knowing the roads as they do, means they handle the conditions and alternative routes to make sure your journey is as comfortable as possible. Best of all, they drop you and your bags at your door, so you won’t have to carry heavy luggage around.

Local guides

On many tours, we include highly trained, expert Local guides who enhance your experience even further with their specialist knowledge of a particular region or site. It could mean being guided by a local Maori through Rotorua’s thermal reserves, have a cheese expert provide insights into your visit to an organic cheesery in Tasmania or talking to and learning from local indigenous guides.
